Calgary Arts Development champions the arts as a key driver of the long-term success of our city. They act as a central hub that invests in, promotes, learns about, and advocates for the arts to animate Calgary as a vibrant cultural centre.

 

Alberta Foundation for the Arts is the primary arts resource and grant funding body in Alberta and helps unleash the potential of every artist through funding, arts promotion, and capacity-building services. AFA provides behind-the-scenes support to artists and arts organizations, giving them the power to inspire minds, encourage expression, foster creativity, and contribute to Alberta’s economy.

 

Calgary Foundation has been nurturing a healthy, vibrant, giving and caring community since 1955. The Foundation facilitates collaborative philanthropy by making powerful connections between donors and community organizations for the long-term benefit of Calgary and area. In 2018-19,  Calgary Foundation saw $65.2 million in new contributions, had an asset base of $1.1 billion and granted $48.9 million to 981 charitable organizations.

 

Founded in 1990, the Rozsa Foundation is a philanthropic organization known for effective support and advocacy for the Arts in Alberta. The Foundation builds on the legacy of Drs. Ted and Lola Rozsa, who were acknowledged champions of the Arts through their support of not-for-profit arts organizations active in the City of Calgary.

 
 
 
 
 
 

Media Partners

CJSW 90.9FM is Calgary’s community radio station, based at the University of Calgary. CJSW is a non-profit society maintained and operated by a group of six staff members and over 200 volunteers drawn from both the University of Calgary student body and the wider city of Calgary population.

 
 

Venues

Globe Cinema – An independent art house cinema, Globe Cinema is dedicated to bringing Calgarians quality movies of all varieties, and is home to many of the annual film festivals in Calgary. Formerly the Towne Cinema, the Globe has been providing Calgary with art house cinematic entertainment since 1995. Originally operated by Landmark Cinemas of Canada, the Globe is now owned and operated by Riley's Reproductions and Printing. 

Contemporary Calgary - Contemporary Calgary is transforming the Centennial Planetarium, an iconic City landmark, info a world-class destination for modern and contemporary art. Their vision is to help make Calgary a global city of choice by engaging our citizens and visitors with the art of our times through exhibitions, distinguished speaker series, outreach and education programs.

 

Film Partners

Calgary International Film Festival  Screening 220 films from around the world and highlighted by a series of gala events, awards, parties and special presentations, the Calgary International Film Festival is one of the largest of its kind in Canada and one of Calgary’s top destination events of the year – the 12-day multi-genre festival enjoyed by upwards of 27,000 cultural enthusiasts annually at cinematic venues across the city.

 

Calgary Underground Film Festival – Founded in 2003, CUFF is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to programming films that defy convention. Through the screening of contemporary works in various categories that include: feature, documentary, animation, short, and experimental – CUFF bring Calgarians a unique roster of films rarely seen in North American theatres.

Alberta Media Arts Alliance Society serves media artists and organizations in Alberta. Founded in 1991, AMAAS provides communication, advocacy and educational networks to its members, as well as direct member services including webhosting, an annual conference, workshops, publishing, awards, sponsorship and artist commissions. Now, and since its inception, AMAAS is governed by a volunteer group of directors, all representatives of the media arts.
